How It Works
The system uses thick plastic cups distributed to 45 local cafes. Customers return cups to citywide depositories for a €0.70 rebate. Strategic placement in shopping areas and high-traffic zones maximizes accessibility.
Proven Success
The program exceeded expectations with 235,000 more cups used and returned in the first year than projected. During the Aarhus Uke festival alone, 100,000 cups were returned – equivalent to 1,200 wheeled trash bins of waste prevented.
Future Expansion
Plans include:
