Exhausted Puffin Rescued 100 Miles Inland
Wildlife rehabilitators in Scotland performed an unusual rescue when a disoriented Atlantic puffin was discovered in a farmer’s field nearly 100 miles from the coast.
The exhausted seabird, nicknamed “Percy” by rescuers, had likely been blown off course by severe storms.
After two weeks of rest and feeding at the Scottish Seabird Centre, Percy was released back to his coastal habitat. “Puffins rarely survive when they get this far inland,” said rehabilitation specialist Dr. Fiona MacLeod. “His recovery is a testament to the species’ resilience.”
