The ordeal began when the 61-year-old man, accompanied by his faithful companions Hero and Tora, ventured into an area he frequented for walks. Unfortunately, he found himself immobilized in mud, concealed from view by tall grass.

The remarkable sequence of events unfolded when police received reports of a large dog wandering near the sugar refinery in Taber. Despite initial challenges in locating the elusive canine, Hero’s presence was eventually confirmed following a second call reporting a dog attack.

Hero’s encounter with another dog led police to the scene, where they spotted him perched on a berm. It was then that Const. Austin Weersink heard a desperate cry for help, prompting a swift response.

Following Hero’s lead, rescuers located the injured man concealed amidst the dense foliage. Despite the challenging circumstances, Hero’s unwavering loyalty had kept his owner warm and potentially fended off threats from wildlife during the ordeal.
