Japan Pioneers Artificial Blood: Clinical Trials Set to Begin This Year
Japanese researchers are poised to launch the world’s first clinical trials for artificial blood, a breakthrough that could revolutionize emergency medicine. Developed over a decade, the synthetic blood substitute:
• Works universally (no blood type matching needed)
• Stores for years without refrigeration
• Carries oxygen as efficiently as natural blood
“If successful, this could end blood shortages forever,” said lead researcher Dr. Kenji Suzuki. The trials will initially focus on trauma patients, with hopes for widespread use by 2030.
