Man’s 27-Year Garden Transformation Raises $500K for Charity
What began as a modest backyard project in Sussex, England, has blossomed into a 4-acre botanical wonderland that opens to the public for charity. Retired teacher Graham Smith has spent nearly three decades cultivating:
- A winter ice garden with frosted sculptures
- A spring tulip maze featuring 10,000 blooms
- Autumn’s “fire trail” where maples blaze red
Admission fees have raised £400,000 (over $500,000) for children’s hospitals. “Every season brings new magic,” Smith said. The garden now draws visitors from across Europe.
