Millennial Parents Find Joy in Everyday Moments with Their Kids

Creating Joyful Moments

A recent poll reveals that small moments of joy can transform routine days into memorable family experiences for millennial parents. The survey, conducted by Talker Research and commissioned by Hostess, involved 2,000 American millennial parents. It found that these parents strive to have fun with their children outside of the regular schedule about five days a week.

Confidence in Creating Joy

A significant 86% of the respondents expressed confidence in their ability to create joyful moments for their families throughout the day. Additionally, 91% believe that these moments positively impact both their own well-being and that of their children. This highlights the importance of finding joy in the little things, even amidst the daily grind.

Simple Acts of Joy

The parents were asked what brings joy to their days. More than half said making their kids laugh or being silly with them brings the most joy. Other popular responses included cuddling (46%) and engaging in spontaneous fun activities (43%).

When dealing with mundane tasks, many parents make these chores more enjoyable by singing along to music (63%), being silly (46%), or dancing with their kids (43%). On average, parents reported surprising their kids with fun activities three times a week.

Spontaneity and Planning

The survey found that 68% of parents enjoy treating their kids to spontaneous activities, such as giving them a special treat or snack (59%), buying something new (58%), or playing games together (57%). However, 78% of parents also prefer planning fun activities ahead of time, like visits to local parks (60%), family activities (51%), and rewarding their kids for good grades (50%).

Breaking the Routine

Chris Balach, Vice President at The J.M. Smucker Co., noted, “Following a daily routine can be beneficial for families and helps everyday life run smoothly, but it can also become repetitive and monotonous. A small break away from a typical day to find and appreciate moments of joy makes a big difference.” This sentiment resonates with over seven in ten parents who prefer weekends for creating spontaneous moments of joy due to the relaxed family time without the pressures of school or work.

The Importance of Play

An overwhelming 90% of parents believe that the more time their family spends playing together, the happier and more closely knit they will feel. Furthermore, 88% think it’s essential to have family outings outside the home at least once a week. These outings provide opportunities to create lasting memories and strengthen family bonds.
