Minister’s Sand Sculptures of Everyday Objects Go Viral
Reverend Thomas Whitmore of South Carolina’s Coastal Community Church has gained unexpected fame for his remarkably detailed sand sculptures. What began as a meditative practice during morning walks has turned into an online sensation, with his creations including:
- A hyper-realistic sand replica of a discarded soda can
- A crumbling “sand castle” shaped like a fast food burger
- An intricate sand carving of a pair of reading glasses
“The temporary nature reminds me that all things pass,” Whitmore said of his art. His TikTok account, @SandAndSpirit, has amassed over 2 million followers. The minister now incorporates his sculptures into sermons about impermanence and mindfulness.
