Spreading Goodness: Good Deeds Day in Rome
Every year in Rome, Good Deeds Day coincides with the city’s annual Fun Run, forming a unique partnership between CSV Lazio and Good Deeds Day. This collaboration, which began in 2016, adds an extra layer of altruism to the Rome marathon, showcasing the beauty of the city alongside the generosity of its people.
An International Movement Takes Root
Good Deeds Day, originating in Israel in 2007 and expanding globally in 2011, has found a welcoming home in Italy. Founded by philanthropist Shari Arison, this day of doing good has gained traction in 115 countries, inspiring millions worldwide to engage in acts of kindness and compassion.
The Good Deeds Day Village
On March 17, 2024, the Good Deeds Day Village returned to the historic Circus Maximus, serving as a hub for promoting solidarity and goodwill. With over 100 volunteer associations, the village buzzed with activities catering to people of all ages, including children, adults, and even four-legged friends.
A Day for Everyone
From historical archery for children to pasta-making stations and arts and crafts, the event catered to diverse interests and passions. Adults also had their share of activities, including health-related training sessions and sports challenges, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Furry Friends Included
In true Italian fashion, the festivities extended to include furry companions, with activities such as pet therapy and demonstrations by dog rescuers. The event underscored the importance of including all members of the community, both human and animal alike.
A Marathon Dedicated to Water
As part of the larger Acea Run Rome marathon, this year’s event was dedicated to water conservation, highlighting the vital role of water in safeguarding human health and the environment. Refreshment points served water in compostable cups, emphasizing the commitment to sustainability.
A Resounding Success
With over 19,000 participants in the marathon and an additional 40,000 in the solidarity relay and Fun Run, the event exemplified the spirit of community and collective action. Against the backdrop of Rome’s iconic fountains and aqueducts, the water theme resonated, symbolizing unity and shared responsibility.
In the heart of Rome, Good Deeds Day and the Fun Run brought together people from all walks of life, celebrating kindness, health, and community spirit. This Italian-style celebration was not just a success—it was a testament to the power of goodwill to unite and uplift us all.
