Tree Cover Expands Across U.S. Metropolitan Areas
A new Forest Service report reveals that urban tree canopy has increased in 60% of American counties since 2000. The growth stems from:
- Municipal tree-planting initiatives
- Reduced deforestation in suburban areas
- Natural regeneration of abandoned lots
“Trees are making a comeback where people live,” said lead researcher Dr. Ellen Park. The findings counter assumptions about urban environmental decline.
